Dr. R. Lester Anderson ’55,
Emeritus Professor of Physics (12/30/1933–7/1/2023)
Dr. Lester Anderson ’55 exemplified the very best of every aspect of being a Marietta College community member — from Phi Beta Kappa student and talented faculty member to Emeritus Professor and engaged alumnus. For about 70 years, Les maintained a strong connection to the College in some form. After graduating from Marietta, he earned his doctorate from Penn State University. He joined the faculty in 1961 and retired in 2002, though he would continue to dedicate a great deal of time supporting initiatives such as Space Camp and Women in the Sciences. Sadly, Les passed away on July 1, 2023.
