In Memoriam

Charles “Chick” Peterson ’53, H’88 (4/5/1927–6/2/2022) Renowned artist Dr. Charles “Chick” Peterson (Phi Beta Kappa), Marietta College Emeritus Professor of Art, taught at his alma mater from 1959 to 1973, broadening the art department to include printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. He also designed the third floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center. A talented artist, Dr. Peterson created a series of watercolors that were part of a European tour in the early 1960s. He was awarded a Distinguished Alumnus award in 1985, an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities in 1988, was the first professor inducted into Marietta’s Emeritus Chamber in 1997, and was also inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2002. Sadly, Dr. Peterson passed away at his home in Ephraim, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife, Susan Gilson Peterson ’76, his three daughters, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
