Don’t start this column with a cliché. Don’t do it. Every journalist I know who reads this is going to roll their eyes. Don’t…
They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Just kidding. Recently, the College created an agreement with the image hosting service, Smugmug, to start offering some of our high-quality photos for sale to the Marietta College community. We started this after the recent “Marietta in Seasons” issue in December 2022, when alumni expressed interest in buying copies of the photos. The relationship with Smugmug gives alumni options on how large and what format they want the prints, and it also provides the College a portion of the profits from the sales. It really is a win-win situation.
One thing you will notice is that the photos do not feature specific students in our sellable photos — we aren’t going to promote the sale of photos that highlight specific people and, more importantly, we want to respect the privacy of our students and employees. This policy doesn’t include sporting events where large crowds are gathered.
We plan to update our offerings moving forward, especially if our Smugmug site really takes off. So, if you’re feeling nostalgic about your home away from home, consider adding a special print of your favorite building or campus shot to your home or office. Also, if you’re feeling particularly bored, you can search this column for all the clichés. Whatever floats your boat.
